Travelling for business can seem stressful. What if you forget things? What should you bring in the first place? Clooper has some answers for you.

USE THE SAME AIRLINE

That! Or try to always fly from the same airport. This is more of a friendly tip than an actual guideline for travelling for business. If you use the same airline often, you’ll become familiar with how they operate. This familiarity will come in handy when venturing into the unknown.

Flying with the same airline, usually from the same airport, is helpful for numerous reasons. You can get to know the airport and the terminals better. This will save you a lot of time spent faffing about ensuring that you get to the right terminal, at the right time, et cetera. Besides, it’s easier on the nerves to be familiar with your surroundings. If you’re a nervous flier, this tip could come particularly in handy.

This tip is particularly useful if you’re new to travelling for business. Figuring out a routine, and what airline or airport works best for you, is a fantastic starting point for getting organized on your travels.

HAVE A HANDY TRAVEL KIT

Firstly, always check what you can and cannot carry onto the plane. If of course, that’s your method of travel. We recommend tissues, earphones or headphones, some pain relief ( for those high altitude headaches ) in the form of paracetamol or ibuprofen – and whatever is personal to you. Some tissues or makeup wipes to freshen up, sleeping masks, a book, et cetera. Figure out what you can’t go without and make a little emergency kit.

It’s important to prioritize your mental well-being, as well as physical wellbeing. So if you’re packing plasters and painkillers, don’t forget things that will care for your mental health too! It might also be worth looking into anti-travel sickness medication if you are a nervous or nauseous flier. They also help with lengthy train journeys! Just remember you have to take most of them at least half an hour before your journey.

UTILIZE ESSENTIAL OILS

Now, this might seem to be a strange one. Hear us out.

Essential oils are proven to have an effect on the mind. Whatever that effect is, it’s usually positive: lavender calms and soothes, for example. Fragrances like bergamot encourage positive emotions. You could bring some to use as something similar to a perfume. Just ensure to do a patch test, to make sure you’re not allergic.

If you’re staying in an unfamiliar place for business, it could feel unfamiliar, uninviting. One way to make it more of a home is with pleasant, soothing scents. You can find some other tips on familiarising yourself with your home away from home here.

PACK NEUTRALLY

Sometimes, travelling for business can be a lot. You can have a lot going on work-wise. You don’t want to spend hours every morning picking an outfit that seamlessly matches and is also professional enough for work.

By packing primarily with neutral colours, you cut out a lot of that. It’s easier to mix and match outfits from a similar palette. You can also bring accessories to jazz up your outfits! Neutral palettes don’t necessarily have to be boring, easier. Just a lot quicker to plan a look around. Lighter colours and white colours can stain very easily, so be cautious packing too many. You don’t want to be stuck with only stained clothes.

ORGANIZE FINANCES BEFORE LEAVING

This is crucial; without a budget or a plan, it may be easier to overspend. On the other hand, you might not bring enough funds, which will also leave you in a predicament.

We recommend sitting down and making a financial plan. Figure out how much money you want to spend on food, accommodation, etc before you even set foot in the airport or station. Also, bring cash. Don’t just rely on your card, and don’t just bring large notes with you. Be sure to check what is culturally acceptable first, in each country, but service tips are usually appreciated. Not only this, it could make a world of difference to the server you’re tipping. It’s always good to be kind!

BE PREPARED!

Think ahead of yourself. Got a business meeting right after your train rolls in? Pack a change of outfit in a garment bag, or transport it in a way that means it won’t get creased. Bring dry shampoo, stay hydrated and keep those dark circles away — even if you’re jet-lagged, you’ve still got to look professional!

A helpful tip is to try to adjust to different time zones before even arriving. Schedule your meal times around the timezone of the country you’re travelling to. This will negate jet lag and acclimatize you quicker to your new surroundings.

If you travel often, keep certain things in your travel bag. Chargers, stationery, office supplies etc. Invest in good, sturdy luggage. Ensure to prioritise the practical things, too! Another pair of nice shoes may be tempting, but surely there are better ways to make use of your case space. You’ll be regretting not packing your favourite pillow come the end of the day, we’re sure.
