Giving Tuesday Is Coming Up Fast! How Will You Be Celebrating Generosity This Year?
Giving Tuesday is a fantastic, heartfelt holiday that everyone should know about.
Coming in hot after a weekend of spending, Giving Tuesday is here to remind us to treat others as generously as we treat ourselves.
A BRIEF BACKSTORY
Giving Tuesday originated in America in 2012. Its intentions were to set aside a specific day per year to celebrate the generosity of giving. This is especially poignant after Black Friday weekend, a weekend of self-indulgence. Treating ourselves is important, essential even to happiness and wellbeing, but Giving Tuesday reminds us there is also great beauty in helping and giving to others.
This was originally started by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. Today, it has grown exponentially. Big names like Sony, Google, Microsoft, Skype and UNICEF have been known to celebrate this joyful day. At Clooper, we believe that the community is where the heart lives. That’s why we work closely with charities such as Shelter and Passage, to nourish our community, and help fulfil our dream: for everyone to have a place to call their own and live joyfully.
WANT TO GET INVOLVED?
It could be as simple as messaging a friend. Or perhaps, hugging a loved one. Giving doesn’t have to be donating or giving gifts. It can be just the act of giving someone your time and attention. This year, Giving Tuesday falls on November 30th!
With all of the charities out there, it can feel overwhelming to try and pinpoint only one, or a few, to donate to. Here are just some suggestions you can support this Giving Tuesday, and all other days:
- Shelter
- The Passage
- The Native American Rights Fund
- Futures Without Violence
- Black Girls Code
- World Central Kitchen
- Muslim Aid
- The Autistic POC Fund
And that’s just a few! Generosity is the gift that keeps on giving. This wonderful opportunity to unite and share generosity only comes around once a year. Don’t miss out! To find out more about the work that Clooper does with Shelter and the Passage, click here.
