The Clooper Guide To Belgravia

Belgravia is a highly affluent and exclusive area of London. Could it be your new home?

Of course, there is more appeal. You don’t need to live in Belgravia long-term to reap the benefits. You can spend a weekend in the area and a day in this leafy pocket of London — or you can make a life here.

PROPERTIES AND PRICES

TO BUY: Belgravia is known as one of the most exclusive places to live in the world. As such, property prices reflect this. You’re looking at an average flat price that is just peeking into the millions. You can nab smaller flats for around £300,000 though, so it’s not all properties for millionaires!

TO RENT: As stated, Belgravia is an exclusive area. Renting is likely to cost you upwards of £1,000 per month for an average flat. It’s also only likely to go up from there.

TO STAY: Typically, luxury serviced apartments in Belgravia and the surrounding area start at around £100 per night. You can browse through some of our available properties here.

GREEN SPACES

Belgrave Square Garden is one of the most popular leafy destinations. Belgravia is known for being a pleasant mix of industrial and green, and this is one of its green jewels. This is sometimes open to the public, but always open to Belgrave Square residents. There are two tennis courts, various statues of famous explorers to be found, and many paths to take leisurely lovely strolls.

Cadogan Place is another exclusive square garden. Developed in the 19th Century, Charles Dickens was even known to visit here. This square of garden paradise is also private to local residents. We really weren’t kidding when we said that Belgravia was exclusive!

Back at it again with the gardens: Eaton Square Gardens finishes off our list of recommendations. This peaceful park is a slice of relaxation in the hustle and bustle of London. Here, you can bring your dog for a walk, invite friends for a picnic, or simply wander and admire the greenery.

THINGS TO DO

Belgravia isn’t just a popular destination in terms of property. There’s also much fun to be had, and many sights to be seen along the streets of Belgravia.

  • Cadogan Hall is Belgravias prime theatre. This historic venue puts on a whole host of shows, from classical music performances to musical theatre.
  • Eccleston Yards is one of Londons best kept secrets. This is an ‘urban oasis’ with multiple stalls and venues and a regular market available for locals and tourists alike.
  • The Peggy Porschen, Belgravia, is busy but understandably so. It’s one of the most ‘instagrammable’ places in London, due to its flowery exterior. You can also nab some adorable cupcakes. If you don’t mind waiting in the queue!
  • Pimlico Road Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 9am until 2pm. You can have a picnic there, or simply buy ingredients for some smashing grub later.
  • The Royal Court Theatre is a must-see for the literature enthusiasts among you. This theatre focuses on up-and-coming authors and their works, so you’re sure for a fresh experience each time.

AMENITIES

Belgravia is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a popular shopping hub. You’ll not have to look far for your basic amenities. Tescos, Sainsbury’s, as well as other supermarkets ( express stores and large stores ) can be found at every corner.

Elizabeth Street is home to numerous cafes – you’ll find Peggy Porschen here, also. Nearby is Motcomb Street, where you can find some stunning macarons at Pierre Herme’s. If you’re not too full up on cupcakes, of course. If you’re looking for something savoury, take yourself down to Ebury Street. Here you can find some of the most visually pleasing restaurants in London.

There is of course also the Farmers Market that we mentioned. Eccleston’s Yard also has various food stalls, gyms, yoga studios and pilates places to choose from. Belgravia is fantastically located. Whatever you can’t find directly around you, you need only hop on a short bus to reach. Living here, or indeed staying here, you have the whole of London at your fingertips.

SCHOOLS

Living in Belgravia is beneficial for students and families with children alike. Students can stay here and benefit from the fantastic travel links, with Victoria Station being only a 15-minute walk away from the centre.

Similarly to Oxford Circus, however, the hustle and bustle may be off-putting for families. Young children might also benefit from a more rural area for exercise and enrichment. If you’re interested in a more rural area, check out our Brockenhurst area guide.

Belgravia does have its own schools and colleges available, or ones that are very close. Eaton House Belgravia School, St Peters Eaton Square C of E School, and Francis Holland School in Sloane Square are all very popular choices.
