November starts us off with a bang with Guy Fawkes night, but what else can we expect from this chilly month?

November to many is just the gap between Halloween and Christmas, but it really doesn’t have to be. Upcoming events vary from a day all about jellyfish to the currently ongoing Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead.

DIWALI

Diwali is the Hindu festival of Lights. Diwali is celebrated in many ways, one such way is that people will light clay lamps known as ‘diyas’ and hang them around their homes. This represents good winning out over evil, as light breaks through the dark. It also invites prosperity and luck to the home, from the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi and the Hindu God, Ganesh.

The celebration is five days long, with many traditions carried out over that time. Families eat and celebrate together, with Diwali sweets being very popular this time of year. Yum!

Diwali is a big celebration in Britain and thousands will be celebrating this beautiful festival soon. Be sure to wish anyone celebrating a ‘Diwali that brings happiness, prosperity, and joy to you and your family’, or simply just a ‘Happy Diwali!’

WORLD JELLYFISH DAY

The third of this month is World Jellyfish Day! Jellyfish are beautiful creatures who sometimes defy the laws of physics just to exist, and they’ve been around for millions of years! That’s definitely a reason to celebrate.

Here are some fun facts about Jellyfish that maybe you can share with your friends this upcoming World Jellyfish Day:

  • Some jellyfish can glow in the dark, like spooky little ghosts in the ocean. They must love Halloween!
  • Jellyfish were around even before the dinosaurs lived on the Earth.
  • Jellyfish don’t actually have brains, and even scientists say they’re ‘not very smart’. But that’s just to us. Maybe they’re all geniuses to one another, and we’re the silly ones!

GUY FAWKES NIGHT

Bundle up, get your marshmallows ready, and get your sparklers ready! Guy Fawkes night is back upon us on the 5th of November.

Bonfire night is very exciting, though it’s important to stay safe. Remember to check your council’s regulations on bonfires, and double-check before lighting them! Hedgehogs and other small critters sometimes nest in the cosy-looking stick pile. Always thoroughly check for these little friends before lighting your bonfire.

In terms of fireworks, it may be a good bet to find a display rather than setting off your own fireworks. This is to ensure safety and keep as many nearby pets as stress-free as possible, as dogs especially can suffer terribly this time of year.

REMEMBERANCE DAY

11th November 2021 is the day we remember those who have given their lives in war and conflict. This date was originally chosen to honour the end of the First World War on 11th November 1918, and we commemorate this date with great respect and sorrow for those that cannot be with us here to see it today.

WORLD KINDNESS DAY

The 13th of November is World Kindness Day, a precursor to Anti Bullying Week from the 15th of November to the 19th of November. It’s around this time that we encourage each other to be kinder to one another, to love and not bully, to understand and not to judge.

A little rusty for compliments after a long few years in and isolation? Don’t worry. We’ve got your back! Here are some lovely words of kindness to share this upcoming World Kindness Day:

  • You are one of the strongest people I know.
  • You have a smile that lights up the room.
  • I always have fun when we’re together!
  • I just wanted to say thanks for being a great friend.
  • You inspire me.
  • I’m proud of you.

Another exciting upcoming event is Black Friday Weekend! From the 26th to the 29th, you can grab some brilliant deals, both online and in stores all around. Find out more about some exciting Black Friday deals here.
