Introducing Clooper Cowries: We Built a Reward System for the Clooper Family

Every naira your business spends on travel has always been exactly that: a spend. It goes out, it gets the job done, and it does not come back. That has been the unspoken rule of corporate travel for as long as most of us can remember.
We think that rule deserves to be broken.
Corporate travel is not a small line item for most businesses. It is a flight to close deals. Hotels for client visits. Journeys that move organisations forward. If that level of commitment and spend is happening through Clooper, it should be building something for you at the same time, not just moving money out the door.
That is the thinking behind what we are launching today.
Clooper Cowries is live
We have launched our corporate travel rewards programme, and it is available to every active Clooper client right now, automatically, with no sign-up required.
Every eligible hotel, flight, and apartment booking made through Clooper now earns Cowries, our reward currency that holds real monetary value and can be used to reduce the cost of future bookings. The more your organisation books through Clooper, the more you accumulate.
Why we built this
We have always believed that corporate travel management should do more than process bookings. It should create genuine value for the businesses and people who trust us with their travel.
As we grew our client base across Africa and around the globe, one thing became clear: the people making bookings on behalf of their companies were investing real time, care, and expertise into every reservation, but the benefits of that work rarely found their way back to them.
We wanted to change that. Clooper Cowries is the result.
What makes it different
We did not want to build another loyalty programme that looks good on paper but frustrates people in practice. So we made a few deliberate decisions.
First, we made it flexible. Corporate clients can choose how their Cowries are distributed. Policy A credits Cowries directly to the individual booker who made the reservation. Policy B pools everything into a company account that can be used as a cost credit or nominated to any individual the organisation chooses. Policy C splits it between both. No single model works for every organisation, so we built all three.
Second, we made the value transparent. One Cowrie equals one unit of local contract currency. NGN 1, USD 1, or GBP 1, depending on the market. No points-to-naira conversion headaches. No wondering what your balance is actually worth.
Third, we removed the pressure of expiry for active users. Cowries operate on a rolling 24-month validity window from the most recent booking. If your organisation is actively using Clooper, your Cowries stay intact.
And we put no ceiling on earnings. There are no monthly caps, no annual limits. The more you book, the more you earn.
This is a product milestone and a cultural one
Internally, Clooper Cowries represents something bigger than a feature launch. It is a statement about the kind of company we are building.
We serve businesses, but businesses are made of people. The travel managers, admin teams, and finance officers who use Clooper every day deserve to feel that their loyalty has value. Clooper Cowries is how we say thank you in a way that is tangible, flexible, and lasting.
We are proud of what the team has put together here. From the product architecture to the terms framework to the policy structures, this has been a careful and considered build. And it is only the beginning.
